Our Mission Statement
Rootstead’s mission is to empower individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency by providing affordable land, sustainable homes, and a supportive community rooted in shared values of independence, sustainability, and connection to the land.
Our Story
Rootstead started as just a late-night chat and a class assignment. Rootstead's founder Alex, and a couple of his buddies went out to eat, and began to talk of how they wished life would be simpler, but that they had no community to help them reach that goal. The next day Alex's Proffesor announced that the class would have a semester long project to create a business plan. Right then, the idea of Rootstead was born.
